Police statistics show that 48 people have been killed in gun violence in 2022. The highest number before that was from 2020 when a total of 47 people were killed according to the same measurement.

According to a report from the Crime Prevention Council, fatal gun violence began to increase already in the mid-2000s.

The increase is seen above all in the 20–29 age group.

M: Will see positive results in the future

From politicians, there have been many proposals for solutions.

Especially in an election campaign where crime fighting has been one of the voters' most important issues.

According to Johan Forssell, legal policy spokesperson for the Moderates, the single most important measure right now is to increase the clearance rate.

- We have very serious crimes today for which very few are caught.

Johan Forssell says that he believes in both the party's ability to implement its policy in a short time and that you will "be able to see positive results during one term".

MP: Must create alliances with parents

Martin Marmgren, environmental party member of parliament, describes the current situation as a "national crisis" that we must put an end to.

Above all, he emphasizes the importance of preventive work and wants more work to be done on building "alliances with parents".

- When we see that children develop risky behaviour, we have to invest resources.

That's where society has to be strong, he says.

Your party has been in government for seven years - why have you not succeeded?

- Too little has been done.

We have done too little to bring criminals to justice, he says and continues:

- I think, unfortunately, it will get worse.

The basis for the criminality we see comes to a large extent from vulnerable areas with great segregation and exclusion.

If we are to reverse that development, we must get people included in society.
