President Yoon Seok-yeol and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a summit this morning.

The two leaders said that they had discussed ways to advance bilateral relations ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Canada next year.

First of all, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in economic and security fields.

Korea, a major producer of semiconductors and batteries, and Canada, a world-class mineral producer, have decided to cooperate to actively respond to the impact of changes in the international order.

[President Seok-Yeol Yoon: To secure a stable supply chain after the pandemic, we will firmly establish a cooperative system in the field of mineral resources between the two governments and companies.]

In addition, we agreed to expand cooperation in future industries such as artificial intelligence and strengthen human-cultural exchanges. I did.

The two leaders also said they would closely cooperate for the denuclearization of North Korea and expand communication in the process of formulating an Indo-Pacific strategy.

[Prime Minister Trudeau/Canadian: In the present of increasing conflicts and uncertainties, we must uphold the nuclear deterrence pledges on the Korean Peninsula and around the world.]

Previously, President Yoon visited the Ottawa War Memorial to make flowers and meet Korean War veterans to comfort them.

President Yoon then met with his wife, Kim Kun-hee, and the Canadian Governor-General Mary Simon and his wife.
