Good evening,

Manfred Koehler

Head of department of the Rhein-Main editorial team of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

It's not every day that a city gets a

new park  .

There are things that you can't buy, and that requires clever urban planning.

In any case, the people of Frankfurt can look forward to a new green area: the racecourse park will be opened in Niederrad at the weekend, and the name already indicates that this is part – the northern part – of the area of the former horse racecourse, on which the DFB Academy came into being.

Among other things on offer: a football field.

Make an effort, aspiring parents will be able to call out to their ball-kicking offspring with a view to the DFB - if you're good, you can continue training back there one day!

The view of the Frankfurt skyline from there is no less beautiful

, as it was back in the days of the racecourse.

In general, one should pay even more attention to the city's buildings in the future than before, because

the city councilors have decided on a program that is intended to provide far more solar roofs.

The two tiny questions of how much funding is actually available for this and where the craftsmen should come from are still open, but there is no lack of big words ("

solar offensive

").

On the other hand, it is now clear

what the city of Frankfurt will have to spend for the 2024 European Football Championship: 30 million euros.

The city councilors have approved so much money, among other things for large screens on the banks of the Main.

The older ones will remember that even at the 2006 World Cup it was a thrilling experience to watch the games on a screen in the middle of the river, and sometimes bargemen passed by and were greeted with cheers.

May there be such a great summer again, on the Main, in the new park or on roof gardens surrounded by solar panels!

And in addition

, the Museum of Applied Art in Frankfurt is now reminding with an exhibition

that ER Nele has always combined art and design

The tip for the weekend

Different countries, different snacks: filled waffles in tapas format, which can be eaten in two or at most three bites and have a sweet or savory interior, are a street food classic in Taiwan.

The bites with the name "Ji Dan Gao" are still largely unknown to us, but in Frankfurt you can now try why they are so popular in their home country.

"Hoja" is the name of a shop on Leipziger Strasse in the Bockenheim district, where small delicacies are sold out the window to take away.

It's definitely worth a try.
