  On the same day, the President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly Kleich struck the gavel to announce the opening of the general debate.

In his speech, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the world is in "big trouble", geopolitical divisions are deepening, inequalities are rising and challenges are spreading further.

He said the world was facing multiple crises, with global conflicts multiplying, the climate continued to deteriorate and biodiversity loss was severe, and the Sustainable Development Goals were "sending a distress signal".

  Guterres said the UN Charter and the ideals it stands for are in danger, the world is beset by "serious global dysfunction" and the international community is not ready or unwilling to meet "the great challenges of our time" ".

He called on countries to form a true world alliance, respect international law, and use dialogue mechanisms to bridge differences.

  "We need action." Guterres said that as long as there is solidarity, the international community can nurture "germs of hope."

He identified three areas where the world must act together: peace and security, the climate crisis and addressing inequalities in developing countries.

  In his speech, Klosch reiterated that the world needs to seek solutions to a series of difficult problems such as climate change through solidarity, sustainable ideas and science.

He said the challenges were enormous and interconnected, but not "insurmountable".

He emphasized that efforts should be made to revitalize the United Nations and promote negotiations on the reform of the Security Council, because this is "related to the credibility of the United Nations and the multilateral order."

  As is customary, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is the first to speak in the general debate.

The dignitaries who spoke on the day also included Turkish President Erdogan, Kazakhstan President Tokayev, South Korean President Yoon Xiyue, Finnish President Niinisto, French President Macron, Philippine President Marcos, President Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, German Chancellor Scholz, etc.

  The general debate of this session of the General Assembly will last until September 26.

During the event, about 150 heads of state, government, deputy prime ministers or foreign ministers will speak on the theme of "Watershed Moment: Addressing Intertwined Challenges with Transformative Solutions" to discuss solutions to global challenges.
