• Institutional crisis The EU Commissioner for Justice will discuss in person with Minister Félix Bolaños the blockade of the CGPJ

Second unsuccessful meeting of the General Council of the Judiciary to reach an agreement to appoint the magistrates of the Constitutional Court.

According to legal sources, the members of the conservative and progressive sectors maintain distant positions on how the present negotiation should develop, which is being delayed during the current month of September after the Government established

a legal term -it expired on the 13th-

to make the appointments, which the members have not respected.

In the conservative group, they have today expressed their firm will to reach an agreement although they have argued that they

lack candidates

to present to the TC at present.

Sources in this sector understand that the visit of the Commissioner for Justice of the European Union,

Didier Reynders

, to meet with the president of the Supreme Court and the CGPJ,

Carlos Lesmes

, the president of the Constitutional Court,

Pedro González-Trevijano

, the ministers

Félix Bolaños

and

Pilar Llop

, the Popular Party and the judicial associations, among others, will be key for the political forces to decide to resume the negotiation to unblock the Council.

Hence, the interlocutors of the aforementioned group have stated this Wednesday that Reynders' trip must be waited for, later, to decide whether to advance in the negotiation on the magistrates of the court of guarantees.

In contrast, the members of the progressive sector seek to advance as soon as possible in the appointments and have put the names of nine Supreme Court judges on the table with the aim that the members of the majority group show their opinions on the matter.

These are the togados

María Luisa Segoviano, Isabel Perelló, Rosa Virolés, Jacobo Barja de Quiroga, Ángeles Huet, Pablo Lucas, Eduardo Espín, José Manuel Bandrés

(the latter magistrate starts as a favorite) and the already retired magistrate and former member of the CGPJ

Rafael Fernandez Valverde

.

Conservative councilors reserve the right to veto certain candidates.
