Prime Minister Kishida, who is visiting New York, held talks with South Korean President Yoon Sung-ryeol, and, bearing in mind the issue of "recruitment" during the Pacific War, resolved outstanding issues between the two countries and strengthened Japan-South Korea relations. We agreed to restore and develop a healthy relationship.

The meeting between Prime Minister Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Sung-ryul lasted for about 30 minutes from around 1:30 am on the 22nd, Japan time.

During this meeting, the two leaders confirmed that Japan and the ROK are important neighboring countries that should cooperate with each other, and confirmed the importance of promoting trilateral cooperation between the two countries and the United States.

In addition, they shared the view that they would further cooperate in dealing with North Korea, and President Yun once again expressed his intention to support Japan's position regarding the abduction issue.

Furthermore, bearing in mind the issue of "requisition" during the Pacific War, the two leaders shared the need to resolve outstanding issues between the two countries and restore a sound relationship between Japan and the ROK, and to develop the relationship in a future-oriented manner. We agreed on that.

They also instructed the two countries to accelerate the ongoing discussions between the diplomatic authorities, including the Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and confirmed that they would continue to communicate with each other.

It has been about three years since Prime Minister Kishida exchanged words face-to-face with President Yoon when he visited Spain in June this year to attend the NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit meeting. It's been a month.
