It is the culmination of a project over ten years old.

The Nantes-Atlantique design school is back to school this week in its new premises, boulevard de la Prairie au duc, west of the island of Nantes.

Since Monday, no fewer than 1,650 students have been gradually discovering this resolutely transparent 11,500 m2 building structured around a “central agora”.

The establishment, whose construction will have cost 26 million euros, was previously installed on the campus of the Chantrerie, eccentric of the city center.

Increasingly internationally oriented, the design school welcomes some forty nationalities in its workforce, for a total of 250 diplomas issued.

She will not feel alone in her new neighborhood since five other major schools (school of architecture, school of fine arts, Sciences Com, graphic arts center, CinéCréatis) have already settled there in recent years.

Public underground parking

The general public will soon notice that an underground public car park, called “Les Nefs”, was also built under the design school.

With a capacity of 500 places spread over three floors, it will open in the coming days.

His arrival will relieve the parking lot of the Machines, already very busy.

It will also make it possible to offer parking solutions in anticipation of the relocation of the CHU to the island of Nantes in 2027. The bill, paid by Nantes Métropole, is 17.5 million euros.
