The number of searches for air travel out of Russia soared after Vladimir Putin announced the mobilization of 300,000 Russian reserve soldiers, Reuters reports.

Already during the night, the search "How to leave Russia" began to increase, Google's own measurement shows.

After Putin's speech, the search increased again.

After Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many countries in Europe have sharply reduced visas for Russian citizens, and also closed the airspace for Russian aircraft.

One of the countries that previously tightened its visa rules is Finland, and on Wednesday Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen told Reuters that the Russian mobilization may be reason for Finland to review the rules for Russian visas further.

Sold out tickets and sky high prices

According to data from Aviasales, a popular website in Russia for buying airline tickets, airline tickets to Turkey and Yerevan, Armenia sold out quickly on Wednesday.

Both Turkey and Armenia allow Russian citizens to enter the country without a visa.

Some prices also skyrocketed, a plane ticket from Moscow to Dubai cost close to SEK 55,000, reports Reuters.

The Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet also reported that several Russian websites for train traffic were down, probably as a result of massive traffic on the websites.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the question of whether Russia intends to close its borders at this time, writes Reuters.
