Citizens looking for work identified four challenges they face in obtaining jobs through employment fairs, which is that some entities participating in the fairs require the entry of job seekers’ data through dedicated electronic devices, when visiting their booths in those fairs, in addition to that other entities are satisfied with offering job opportunities For training only, without guaranteeing employment, and most agencies receive from the job-seeker his resume without conducting personal interviews, while parties are strict in the requirement of experience when hiring.

This came during the field tour of "Emirates Today" at the Emirates Vision Care Fair, which kicked off yesterday, at the Dubai World Trade Center, in which more than 100 government and private agencies participated, and witnessed a heavy turnout by job seekers from citizens.

In detail, the Dubai Police General Command has begun receiving applications from citizens wishing to join military jobs, through its platform at the exhibition, announcing the provision of jobs for citizens of both sexes who wish to join the military human cadre, through the “Smart Choice and Employment Program”, and through Dubai Police website (ejob.dubaipolice.gov.ae) or through the Dubai Police smart app.

The Director of the General Department of Human Resources at the General Command, Major General Dr. Saleh Abdullah Murad, confirmed that the Dubai Police is participating in the Emirates Vision for Jobs exhibition, as part of its keenness to support the strategic directions of the state in empowering youth, and attracting Emirati cadres of both sexes, to be part of the security work system of the Police. Dubai, and actively participate in the service of the nation.

The Director of the Selection and Employment Department in the General Administration of Human Resources, Lt. Col. Hamad bin Dafous, mentioned the most important conditions for military employment, which are that the applicant must have a general secondary certificate or less and approved by the official authorities, and that the age should not be less than 18 years, and the height should not be less than 165 cm, and the applicant must be of good conduct and conduct, and hold a driver's license.

He added that those wishing to join the military work in the Dubai Police are required to attach a set of documents when submitting the application, including: a certificate of good conduct, a study certificate certified by the Ministry of Education, an EMSAT English language certificate with a grade of 925 or its equivalent, a TOEFL certificate with a score of 400, or a certificate ILETS 4.0 average.

He continued: “The applicant must attach copies of the passport, family book, identity card, birth certificate, driver’s license, certificate of completion of the national and reserve service, and a no-objection certificate issued by the National Reserve Service Authority, in addition to a personal photo, through the recruitment platform of the Police Dubai".

Dubai Municipality is participating in the exhibition with the aim of encouraging Emirati youth to take advanced steps to achieve success, in support of their professional and personal development, and in implementation of the leadership's directives regarding the promotion of the Emiratisation file in the Emirate of Dubai.

Dubai Municipality launched the "Jobs of the Future" initiative, with the aim of attracting, sending and nurturing students to join according to the fields and future specializations required in them, while training and developing them in cooperation with the private sector.

The approved tracks for future jobs included the engineering track with a specialization in 3D printing, the digital track, which includes artificial intelligence and digital data science, and the food safety track with a major in big data analysis.

During the exhibition, the municipality reviewed the "Guide Me Program", which aims to guide high school students and make them aware of future directions for jobs, and launched the "Pioneers" initiative for recent graduates, by adopting and training them in technical and administrative fields that support the municipality.

Dubai Customs participates in the exhibition, to achieve interaction and communication to reach the maximum levels of knowledge exchange and experiences.

Mohammed Al Ghafari, Executive Director of the Human Resources Sector at Dubai Customs, said: "Dubai Customs' strategy is based on developing and qualifying its human resources with more expertise and knowledge skills to enhance their renewed functional capabilities and contribute to achieving the department's goals. Dubai Customs is updating its plans for human resource development. In line with its strategic plan 2021-2026, including introducing new initiatives that improve employee performance and qualify them for future skills.

Rafia Alabbar, Director of Human Resources Department at Dubai Islamic Bank, said: “Participation in job fairs allows us to communicate and attract the best young Emirati talents across the entire country, and provides citizens with job opportunities that enhance their skills and open up prospects for them to build a successful career, and at the same time enables us to Bank team development.

The Emiratisation rate in the bank in 2021 amounted to approximately 45%, or nearly half of the bank’s total employees, in addition to achieving 100% Emiratisation rates at the level of branch managers, and this represents the best levels according to the UAE Central Bank.

On the other hand, the Dubai Government Human Resources Department and the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Dubai signed yesterday, on the sidelines of the exhibition, a memorandum of understanding to set a general framework for cooperation and exchange of experiences and knowledge between the two parties, and to achieve the desired goals aimed at concerted efforts to enrich government knowledge and empower national cadres. Raising the level of technical and behavioral competencies of the employees of the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Dubai through the "Riyada" program launched by the department.

The memorandum was signed by the Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, and the Director General of the General Department of Civil Defense in Dubai, Lieutenant-General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, at the Dubai Government platform at the Emirates Vision Care Fair, which started yesterday, in Dubai.

The memorandum of understanding stipulated cooperation between the two sides in the fields of training and education in support of developing the institutional performance of national employees in government agencies and private entities in the Emirate of Dubai, providing the employees of the two sides with new knowledge, skills and experiences in their field of work, and cooperation in the field of programs to prepare and empower national competencies from various functional categories. And cooperation in documenting, publishing and exchanging best government practices, enriching the knowledge content of the applied experiences of government administration, and activating institutional communication channels between the two parties.

On the other hand, citizens looking for work told «Emirates Today» that they face several challenges in obtaining jobs through employment fairs in general.

Abdul Rahman Muhammad said that he is a recent graduate, and he visited the exhibition yesterday, looking for a job that fits his educational specialization (business administration), noting that the most prominent employment requirements, which he considered a challenge for him, are that some exhibitors need experience in the fields of work in which there are vacancies.

Fatima Abdullah stated that she graduated three years ago, before the “Corona” pandemic, and during the pandemic period, she was not able to search for a job well, due to the lack of employment fairs that were organized in the last period, in addition to that she was not in contact with employers.

She added that the most important challenge facing the job seeker, especially in employment fairs, is that some of the participating parties in the fairs ask job seekers who visit their pavilions at the fair, to enter their data through electronic devices dedicated to this, following up: “If the matter is entering data through devices. At the fair, it is better to apply for jobs with these agencies, through their websites, without having to visit employment fairs.”

Khaled Mansour said that a number of parties participating in employment fairs are satisfied with offering training opportunities only without guaranteeing employment, after the end of the training, and therefore, although the training will add experiences to the trainee, the job seeker prefers to get a job in a short time, to provide him with financial advantages.

Ibrahim Rashid stated that most of the entities that participate in the job fairs receive their CVs from job seekers without conducting personal interviews, and then they wait to receive contacts from these entities later, explaining that these contacts often do not take place.

He added that he obtained high school, several years ago, and applied for several jobs through employment fairs, but he did not get the job that suits him, in terms of financial privileges, indicating that he prefers to work in any government agency, because he sees that its job privileges are better.
