BBC: The Queen's funeral attracts 28 million viewers in Britain

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) said on Tuesday that 28 million Britons watched the funeral of Queen Elizabeth on their screens in their homes, making it one of the most watched events in years.

The BBC added that the majority of viewers in Britain watched the funeral on the state-funded channel.

She said 32.5 million viewed her coverage at some point, and her viewership peaked at 22.4 million as the Queen's coffin was carried in procession from Westminster Abbey through central London.

The BBC said its viewership was the largest since the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and was similar to the number of people who watched Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.
