An earthquake struck eastern Taiwan on the 18th, killing one person and injuring 142 by the evening of the 18th, according to Taiwanese authorities.

Since the 17th, there have been a series of earthquakes in eastern Taiwan, and the Taiwanese authorities are calling for vigilance that an earthquake of magnitude 5 or higher may occur for about a week in the future.

According to Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau, an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred in eastern Taiwan on the afternoon of the 18th, and strong shaking was observed in Taitung Prefecture and neighboring Hualien Prefecture.



According to a summary by the Taiwanese authorities as of midnight on the 19th of Japan time, a man working at a cement factory in Hualien County died after being crushed under the equipment of the factory that collapsed in the earthquake.



In Hualien County, a three-story building containing a convenience store collapsed, and four people inside were temporarily trapped inside and injured, and a total of 142 people in Taiwan were injured.



In addition, some trains derailed, bridges and school buildings collapsed, and power outages occurred in more than 21,000 houses across Taiwan.



Since the earthquake of magnitude 6.4 occurred in the eastern part of Taiwan on the night of the 17th, earthquakes have continued one after another, and the Taiwanese authorities are calling for vigilance that an earthquake of magnitude 5 or more may occur for about a week in the future.
