The

“Bambino Gesù” pediatric hospital will be built in Cairo

, thanks to the collaboration agreement signed in Rome by the hospital institution headed by the Vatican with the “Bambino Gesù” Association, which promotes the initiative in Egypt.

The agreement, a note reads, was signed by Mariella Enoc, president of one of the most important pediatric hospitals (it is the largest pediatric hospital and research center in Europe) and by the president of the "Bambino Gesù" Association of Cairo, Monsignor Yoannis Gaid.

Specialized training in pediatrics and neonatology

is provided

for the health personnel of the “Bambino Gesù Women's and Children's Hospital” in the Egyptian capital;

a

training

period that will take place at the Rome office, in addition to the assistance of pediatric patients with complex diseases, not otherwise curable in Egypt.

There will also be

remote training

through the Medtraining platform, training of health personnel through

on-the-job training

at the “Bambino Gesù” in Cairo and remote consultancy on complex cases.

The agreement also includes the possibility of sending “Bambino Gesù” specialists to Egypt to train health personnel on site and treat and operate the most difficult cases, which could thus be treated in Egypt without having to hospitalize them in Rome.

Last Wednesday, again by Monsignor Gaid, the contract for the acquisition of the land

necessary for the construction of the structure was signed

, land granted by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The identified area (about 100 thousand square meters) is located near the new administrative capital, a project strongly desired by al-Sisi and destined to accommodate about seven million inhabitants.

Although this is a bilateral agreement between the Holy See and the Egyptian state, the news of this new, future collaboration comes at a stage in which relations between Italy and Cairo are not among the best (to put it mildly), because of the painful story of Giulio Regeni.
