The Pride parade that passes through Serbia's capital has been controversial.

Earlier this week, Serbian police and authorities announced that the parade would not take place citing public safety.

On Saturday, the parade was carried out anyway and according to the organizers, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić should have given approval to the march.

The security requirement was enormous and, according to Sveriges Radio, around 6,000 police officers escorted the participants in the parade through the city.

The police clashed with football hooligans who threw stones and firecrackers.

There are no reports of injured persons.
