China News Service, September 17. China Earthquake Networks officially determined that an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 occurred in Taitung County, Taiwan (23.05 degrees north latitude, 121.21 degrees east longitude) at 21:41 on September 17, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.

  The epicenter was in Taitung County, 223 kilometers away from Taipei City.

The earthquake caused strong tremors throughout Taiwan, especially in Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Fuzhou in Fujian. There were also reports of tremors in Guangzhou, Hangzhou and other places.
