According to the UCI press release, Ganna, 26, will make this attempt at the Granges velodrome, the same where the Briton Daniel Bigham won this record last month by covering 55.548 kilometers.

"I can't wait to take part in it, even if it's going to be an hour of pure suffering (...). It's a time when you are really driven to explore your physical and mental limits", said the runner Italian, quoted in the press release.

Until then, Filippo Ganna will defend his double title of time trial world champion this Sunday in Wollongong, Australia, over a distance of 34.2 kilometers.

The current hour record holder is therefore his own performance engineer within the British training Ineos, Daniel Bigham, 31 years old.

On August 19, Bigham erased from the tablets Belgian Victor Campenaerts, who had traveled 55.089 km in Aguascalientes, Mexico on April 16, 2019.

"What just happened is quite breathtaking," reacted Bigham, who still had solid references before starting.

In 2021, with 54.723 km, he had already broken the British hour record on this same Swiss track, held by Bradley Wiggins, the winner of the 2012 Tour de France.

And he had been tempted to break the hour record for the first time in 2014, according to Ineos.
