During Thursday, about 20 Ukrainian migrants demonstrated against the EU's mass migration directive outside the Migration Agency's office in central Växjö.

- BankID is a must today in Sweden to have a functioning everyday life and it requires a social security number, that is the problem, says Lena Makhonko, a refugee from Ukrainka.

“Ask other people for help”

Ukrainian refugees are covered by the EU's mass migration directive, which means that they are not considered to be resident in Sweden.

This means that if they are not registered, they will not be assigned a normal social security number.

- Without a social security number, they cannot identify themselves and access various digital services.

They can't log in to school applications, they can't open a bank account, or get their own internet subscription, says Natalia Svensson, assistant at the Church of Sweden.

The protesters hope that the regulations are changed so that they can enter the system.

- We constantly have to ask other people for help to solve our everyday problems.

We want to get into the system, says Lena Makhonko.
