The rides will not turn and it is the Toulouse ring road which could well go into bumper car mode this Friday.

After months of tense arm wrestling with the town hall, the fairgrounds of the famous Saint-Michel festival announce that they will carry out their threat and block the ring road.

Concretely, they plan to position themselves from 7 a.m. at the northern toll with their big carousels then to leave in the direction of Bordeaux, to make an incursion into the city center during the day and to symbolically join the Zénith in the evening.

It is in the car park of the theater that the party had been folded up for ten years.

But in April 2021, the town hall announced that it could no longer be held there due to construction sites in the neighboring area of the Cartoucherie and the nuisance caused for local residents.

Things seemed to settle down last week when the town hall proposed the very central Ile du Ramier, excluded from negotiations in 2021 because it is located in a flood zone…

The conflict could get bogged down

The climate has apparently become tense since then.

In a severe letter, sent this Thursday to the press, the mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR) criticizes the fairgrounds for their “refusal to dialogue”.

"Obviously, you prefer to force through," he wrote to them.

For their part, the professionals point to a late proposal on land under construction which does not have the equipment to host a party of such magnitude.

Will negotiations resume?

The party was to last a month.

The showmen are therefore not expected elsewhere and could renew their snail operation next week.
