After the awaited confirmation of the face to face between Russian President Valdimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the two leaders - divided by a long table of circumstances - met in Samarkand in Uzbekistan.

It is the first meeting, after that of February 4 on the occasion of the Beijing Olympics in which the two Asian super-powers promised an "unlimited" friendship, a meeting that took place on the eve of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Many things, however, have changed since February 4 and for this reason the summit seems to strengthen that Asian economic and commercial axis, in which Moscow, in the light of the latest events in Ukraine, appears to be the one most in difficulty due to sanctions.

It is perhaps no coincidence that the VII summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

(SCO) founded by Beijing 20 years ago

is set in this once symbolic city, an ancient terminal for caravans along the Silk Road .

The SCO includes 9 countries including

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

which have declared themselves neutral towards the war in Ukraine and

Tajikistan and Turkmenistan

which have never officially taken a position on the conflict.

Over time they have been joined by India, Pakistan and Iran.

The summit takes place at the same time as

joint Russia-China military exercises in the Pacific.

"The attempts to create a unipolar world" by the West "have taken absolutely horrible forms", is the Russian agency Tass to report the first words of the Russian leader who says he understands "the concerns of China on the Ukrainian question" and which intends to "clarify the Russian position" in this regard.

Then he touches on

a

fundamental point for the geopolitical balance in the Asian area, saying that Russia is "firmly committed" to the recognition of the principle of

one China

and condemns "the provocations of the US in Taiwan".

Faced with a changing world, times of transformation and historical change, China wants to work with Russia to demonstrate the responsibility of great powers and instill stability and positive energy in a world of chaos

We must not forget that at the base of the

relationship between Moscow and

Beijing

there is that

"neutrality" on the conflict in Ukraine,

almost flaunted by China and solid anti-US and anti-NATO rhetoric, even though Beijing has never violated sanctions or provided military aid to Moscow.

China which today says it is ready to work with Russia "as between great powers", assures Xi Jinping, explaining that "in the face of a changing world, times of transformation and historical changes, China wants to work with Russia to demonstrate responsibility of great powers and instilling stability and positive energy in a world of chaos ".

The Chinese president also said he wanted to share ideas on bilateral relations and issues of regional and international importance with Putin.

Before coming face to face with Xi Jinping, Putin met with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi.

Russia and

Iran

would be completing the preparation of a new strategic cooperation agreement.

Their positions "are close or coincide" on many international issues, the head of the Kremlin said, while Ria Novosti writes that next week a delegation composed of representatives of "80 large Russian companies" will visit Iran.

On the

gas

level , business between the two countries has consolidated: Beijing continues to buy the Russian gas that Europe no longer wants and already has a plan for the new gas pipeline that will pass through

Mongolia

even if it will take at least two years to make it happen.
