Chinese President Xi Jinping, who went out for the first time in 32 months, visited Samarkand, Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was launched in 2001 led by China and Russia, and is a political, economic and security consultative body with eight member countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and India.

Xi will hold a summit today with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is also visiting Uzbekistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

This is the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the first in about seven months since the meeting in Beijing in early February.

The Russian side said the two leaders will discuss issues such as the protracted war in Ukraine and the conflict between the US and China over Taiwan.

In particular, Xi is expected to try to contain the US through strategic cooperation that directly or indirectly supports Russia's position on the Ukraine war.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Vlodimir Zelensky encouraged soldiers by visiting the recently restored Kharkiv Igeum, which had been occupied by Russia.
