Nestlé was sued for having polluted the Aisne river in August 2020 by inadvertently discharging 155 m3 of effluent from its Dolce Gusto factory in Challerange (Ardennes).

The Charleville-Mézières court finally validated on Tuesday the device of Judicial Convention of public interest which extinguished the legal action, explains L'Union.

500,000 euros for repairs

Nestlé has indeed agreed to pay more than 500,000 euros to rehabilitate the river.

In addition to a public interest fine of 40,000 euros, the company will pay 475,000 euros to the Ardennes Fishing Federation, which will carry out various operations.

Four other environmental defense associations, also civil parties, were also compensated.

As a reminder, this accidental pollution occurred on August 9, 2020. Six tonnes of fish were killed and 14.5 kilometers of the watercourse polluted.

The company quickly recognized the facts and has since spent 487,000 euros to bring its factory into compliance.

A cooperation which justified for the court the validation of this Judicial Convention of public interest.
