An Emirati girl named Reem Ahmed, aged one and eight months, died of drowning in a temporary swimming pool made of rubber, the day before yesterday, in her family's home in Al Dhait area in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.

Ahmed Saif, the girl's father, told "Emirates Today" that he had recently bought a rubber pool for his children to enjoy in the hot weather during the summer vacation period, and he continued that his child was playing in the outer courtyard of the house, and there was a chair next to the pool, and that she climbed on the chair and from it Fell into the pool.

He explained that his child drowned in the pool, and that he was always keen to empty the pool of water after using it, but that two days before the incident his children were swimming inside it under his personal supervision, and that he was about to empty it, but God's will and judgment were dominant.

He explained that his daughter was taken to the hospital in an attempt to save her life, but she had passed away, adding that what happened was a fate, calling on all families to empty the rubber pools of water as soon as they are used, and not to put any chairs or tools to help children get up and down the pool. To preserve their lives, he appealed to the owners of the villas to put barriers around the deep pools or cover them to prevent any child from falling into them.

For its part, the Department of Civil Defense in Ras Al Khaimah stated that families should monitor their children while they are in the swimming pools, in order to preserve their lives, and not leave them in the pools alone, and not allow them to play near the pools to prevent them from falling inside and exposing them to danger.

She added that the depth of the swimming pools must be taken into account to match the age of the children, with the importance of alerting the swimming lifeguard, if found in the place, or calling the emergency department in the event of seeing a person drowning.
