The election of Amadou Mame Diop, of the ruling coalition, as President of the National Assembly on Monday, September 12 took place in a stormy fashion.

The opposition had boycotted the vote, after a parliamentary return which turned into a rat race.

The candidacy of deputy mayor Richard Toll came as a surprise.

In the majority, other personalities were approached for the perch, in particular Aminata Touré.

The former Prime Minister had led the national list of the Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition for the legislative elections.

She left the hemicycle on Monday before the vote.
