China News Agency, United Nations, September 13 (Reporter Wang Fan) The 77th United Nations General Assembly opened on the 13th at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The President of the 77th UN General Assembly, Kleich, emphasized "solidarity, sustainable development and science" and called on the international community to jointly address the challenges facing mankind.

On the same day, Kleich struck the "gavel" on the rostrum to announce the official opening of the 77th session of the General Assembly.

In his speech, he said the world faces enormous uncertainty and widening geopolitical rifts.

The United Nations was born in the smoke of war and was created to be a "well of solutions".

During his tenure, he will promote the strengthening of science's role in UN agency decision-making through solidarity, sustainable development and science-based problem-solving.

The crisis in Ukraine is a "turning point" and the risk of the world using nuclear weapons is higher than it has been in the past 40 years, which requires us to unite on disarmament issues, Klosch said.

He also said that the pandemic continues to wreak havoc on a global scale, with food insecurity, soaring energy prices, record inflation and disruptions to global supply chains also plaguing humanity.

The world is not going back to the "old normal", we need to transform, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement and more point the way.

Klosch said he will defend the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, use science to guide decision-making, and make measurable progress in sustainable transformation.

He will strengthen solidarity and endeavour to build bridges of communication among Member States.

He will work with Member States to achieve breakthroughs and work to address the challenges facing humanity.

Speaking at the conference, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that as we move forward, we face a world at risk.

We need to come together to meet challenges, and the General Assembly shows hope and potential.

The world looks to General Assembly members to use the tools at their disposal to negotiate, reach consensus and forge solutions.

I believe the 77th session of the General Assembly is a moment of transformation.

The General Assembly is the main deliberation, monitoring and review body of the United Nations and is composed of all the member states of the United Nations.

The General Assembly will hold regular sessions from September to December every year.

A regular session is usually divided into two phases, the first part is the general debate, and the second part is the consideration of the items on the agenda by the General Assembly.

The general debate of this session of the General Assembly will be held from September 20 to 26.
