Today, Monday, the Coordination Framework Alliance in Iraq affirmed its adherence to its candidate for prime minister, Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, whose candidacy has caused a major and continuing crisis with the Sadrist movement.

In a statement issued by the "Coordination Framework" published by the Iraqi News Agency, he confirmed that he had reached "advanced understandings with the national forces," and that he "continues dialogue with all parties to implement the constitutional obligations."

The coordination framework said that it would continue the dialogue until "the institutions return to performing their tasks and the formation of a government with full powers, in order to spare the country more crises."

He added that he "will do everything in his power to expedite the creation of appropriate conditions and ensure the participation of everyone," and declared his "great appreciation for the national and constitutional position of the Sovereignty Alliance and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, after their meeting in Erbil."

Iraq has been experiencing a political crisis since the October 2021 elections, as a result of sharp differences over the formation of the government between the Sadrist bloc, which won the largest bloc (73 deputies), but later resigned, and political parties represented in the "coordinating framework."

The crisis escalated with supporters of Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr announcing an open sit-in in the parliament building to protest against the nomination of Al-Sudani, 52, to head the government, before events developed into clashes inside the Green Zone in Baghdad, after which Al-Sadr decided to end the sit-in and asked his supporters to withdraw.
