After the last election in 2018, there was a change of power in Gothenburg.

The alliance took over after 24 years of social democratic rule in the city.

But they did so by a small margin and only had just over a quarter of the mandates.

Even in the distribution of mandates

Now it looks like it will again be very even in terms of the mandates and who will rule.

In this year's election, mainly the Social Democrats in Gothenburg are advancing with an increase of 5.9 percent compared to the last election.

But the Moderates, the Left Party and the Sweden Democrats are also increasing.

- There will be negotiations, says Axel Josefson (M), the current chairman of the municipal board.

- I will keep many doors open and negotiate widely.

What's important to us is policy.

I will weigh the various Social Democratic proposals carefully.

Matters come before power, says Jonas Attenius, who until now has been a Social Democratic opposition councillor.

41 mandates are required for the red-green to take power in Gothenburg again.

But when 406 out of 4011 districts are counted, that constellation has 40 seats.

Do you dare to declare yourself a winner?

-

I think it looks very good, says Jonas Attenius (S).

One party that is declining, however, is the Democrats.

Compared to the last election, the party is back by 10.6 percent.

V opens the door for C

The strongman of the left in Gothenburg, municipal councilor Daniel Bernmar, is open to a collaboration with the Center Party.

- For us, it is natural to cooperate with the Social Democrats, with the Green Party and with other parties that stand up for human rights, and we think that the Center Party has shown that they do that, he says.
