Fierce fighting has been going on in Kharkiv since the invasion of Ukraine began.

The city is still frequently hit by Russian shelling.

- It is clear that they continue to shoot at civilian targets, but above all infrastructure such as gas pipelines and power stations.

Many are now expecting that it will be a cold and hard winter if the Russians continue shelling in this way, says Elin Jönsson.

Towns liberated in the offensive

Kharkiv is close to the front where the northern part of the Ukrainian offensive to the east is underway.

Several towns have been liberated by the country's forces in recent weeks and the implementation of the operation has been praised worldwide.

- The Ukrainians are as surprised by this offensive as the rest of the world.

Of course, many are happy, proud and grateful for what is happening.

At the same time, this joy is mixed with anger and sadness when information comes from these areas that have been taken back, because you get to know what the situation looks like there, says Elin Jönsson.

Should remind of the massacre in Butja

According to her, there are reports that over a thousand civilians have been killed in the city of Izium, and an equal number are said to have died due to the lack of proper medical care.

There are circumstances surrounding the dead that are reminiscent of the internationally recognized massacre in Butja, where hundreds of civilians were found shot on the street, in cars and basements.

- There is information that bodies were found that showed signs of torture, that there had been looting and theft.

This is information that was confirmed this evening by the prosecutor in Kharkiv county, says Elin Jönsson.
