The Gironde prefecture indicates that 200 firefighters are mobilized, as well as two Canadair, a Dash and two water bomber helicopters.

The inhabitants of the municipality of Saumos were also evacuated as a precaution.

The departmental council adds that it had to close departmental road 5 to traffic. A diversion has been set up by the RD 5E3 and RD6, to reach Lacanau and Sainte-HĂ©lĂšne.

The closure could last all night.

The Gironde, affected by major fires this summer (nearly 30,000 hectares burned), experienced very high temperatures on Tuesday, with in particular a monthly record recorded in Bordeaux (37.5 degrees), unheard of since 1987.
