In the last election, the Liberals received 34.24 percent of the votes and when 92 percent of this year's votes are counted, the party lands at just over 38.5 percent.

The already strong party increases its grip on the city.

- We have run a fantastically good election campaign, but the basis for it is concrete results in people's everyday lives over a long period of time.

It's paying off now and that's what we're seeing now in the election results, says Torkild Strandberg (L), chairman of the municipal board.

Treklövern remains first choice

The Liberals have ruled the last term together with the Moderates and the Green Party, a constellation also called the three-leaf clover.

At first this constellation was supported by the Sweden Democrats, but after a Sweden Democrat became a political savage, the party was abandoned and instead the Center Party was brought into the power base.

Several parties lose in the municipal council elections.

The Social Democrats lose the most, followed by the Sweden Democrats.

Both the Center Party and the Christian Democrats appear to fall below the two percent barrier and may be without a mandate in the council.

Whether it is the same constellation that will govern the coming term is uncertain.

But it is the Liberals' first choice.

- We have a 16-year very good collaboration with the Moderates and the Green Party, and my absolute ambition is to continue that.
