China News Service, September 9. According to Dagong Wenhui's full media report, Li Dazhi, vice president of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, wrote in "Huaisi" on the 9th that the FPS (Hong Kong's fast payment system) has been launched for nearly 4 years, and as of the end of August , 10.9 million registrations have been recorded, and the usage has continued to grow steadily. In August, an average of 928,000 real-time transactions were processed every day, a significant increase of 17 times compared to when the system was first launched; more than 80% of the SAR government departments have adopted FPS for payment. One of the options is to further cover more public services in the future. Banks and stored value facility operators are also encouraged to design low-cost, high-efficiency and simple FPS payment solutions for small merchants.

Li Dazhi said that the application of FPS in Hong Kong is becoming more and more mature. If it can break through the limitation of using it only in Hong Kong, and take advantage of cross-border payment of 24-hour uninterrupted operation and real-time payment, it will be able to exert greater benefits.

He is very pleased that the relevant departments of the SAR government have cooperated with the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People's Bank of China, and Hong Kong has become the first cross-border pilot of the digital renminbi outside the mainland to conduct technical tests.

He pointed out that the technical test has entered the second stage. The main test is to pass the FPS to add value to the digital renminbi wallet. The scope and scale of the test have also been expanded. The number of participating banks has increased from one to four. The current progress is good, and will be introduced in due course. Multiple digital renminbi operators and local banks will participate in the test so that Hong Kong residents can use digital renminbi in the mainland in the future.

Li Dazhi also mentioned that he is currently cooperating with the Bank of Thailand to discuss the use of FPS for Hong Kong people to pay in Thailand, and to allow Thai tourists to use the local fast payment system "PromptPay" in Hong Kong.

He hopes that when the epidemic eases and the tourism industry gradually recovers, Hong Kong residents or visitors to Hong Kong who travel overseas will have safer and faster payment options.
