Despite rough seas, he had gone swimming around 9:30 a.m. and had not been heard from again.

A 69-year-old man was found dead on Tuesday at the end of the day in Pornichet (Loire-Atlantique), after intense searches.

According to the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic, it was the wife of the victim who had given the alert at the beginning of the afternoon, not seeing her husband return from the tip of Congrigoux.

A gendarmerie helicopter and two coastguard and SNSM patrol boats were mobilized.

The firefighters, on a rescue boat, finally found the body of the lifeless swimmer, while the search was about to end, around 5 p.m.

The man could not be saved.
