  • US Donald Trump appeals to the courts the delivery of documents from the assault on the Capitol

The far-right and former adviser to former US President Donald Trump,

Steve Bannon, has turned himself in to the Manhattan district attorney's office

and is expected to face specific charges later this Thursday.

At the moment the charges filed against Bannon are unknown, but the local press indicates that the process could be related to his work in 'We Build The Wall' (We build the wall), a

fundraising operation

to help fulfill the

Trump

's promise to

build a wall along the US-Mexico border.

Before entering the Manhattan district attorney's office, Bannon described the situation to reporters as "an irony."

"The same day that the mayor of this city has a delegation at the border, they are chasing people here for trying to stop them at the border," the 68-year-old noted.

In February of last year, the New York prosecutor's office began an investigation against the controversial former adviser for

alleged fraud against donors for the border wall with Mexico

, after being pardoned by the former president hours before leaving the White House.

Trump's "precautionary" pardon applies to possible federal crimes, but not state crimes,

so Bannon could still be charged in this case.

Last July he was found

guilty of contempt of Congress

, for which he could be sentenced to up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $200,000.
