China's CCTV reported today (7th) (local time) that the death toll from the Sichuan earthquake has risen to 72.

However, CCTV did not comment on the number of missing persons counted at 15 the day before.

China's earthquake belt said that at 2:42 a.m. today, a magnitude 4.5 aftershock occurred in Shimen County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province.

Its epicenter is 220 km from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and 140 km from Leshan, where the world's largest stone Buddha, Leshan Great Buddha, is located.

In Shimen County, a magnitude 4.2 aftershock occurred immediately after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred in Luding County, Sichuan Province, on the 5th.

After the earthquake in Luding County, aftershocks of 3.0 or higher have occurred 13 times in this area.

Secondary damage such as landslides is feared as heavy rain is forecast for four days in the earthquake-prone area.
