US officials say Washington plans to open a facility in Saudi Arabia to test technologies to combat the drone threat.

Officials told NBC that the new facility in Saudi Arabia will develop and test integrated capabilities for air and missile defense.

They added that Central Command's early planning includes naming the facility the "Red Sands Integrated Experiment Center."

Officials said there was no specific timetable for when operations of the new facility would start, but it was unlikely before the end of this year.
