30 million kroner, of which 10 million from the national Klimatklivet, has been invested in a boiler that is fired with fuel pellets from residual products from the forest industry.

By leaving oil and gas, emissions are reduced by approximately 90 percent carbon dioxide equivalents.

- We have a very clear energy transition plan.

It involves working with projects where you reduce our energy needs and then ultimately we want to ensure that we change and can be fossil-free, says Nina Tidén, production manager for Orkla Foods Sweden.

"Believe in Kumla"

The boiler with a total output of five megawatts heats the premises and produces the steam necessary for production at the factory, which today produces juice, soups, creams and porridge.

The size has been increased to cope with a possible future expansion at the factory, which currently employs 160 people.

- This investment guarantees both job opportunities and that the company will remain and believe in Kumla to have its production in, says Andreas Brorsson (S), chairman of the municipal board.

Secured fuel deliveries

The old boilers remain and, in the worst case, can be put into operation to secure food production.

However, the recent alarm about a lack of fuel pellets is not something that worries the site manager.

Malin Löwek, acting factory manager Orkla Foods in Kumla.

- We have contracts that extend very far.

We have secured the price and secured the deliveries, which means that we are not so affected by it at the moment, says Malin Löwek, acting factory manager.
