The exercise, which goes by the name Meteor, is recurring but in different forms.

The main focus of the exercise this time was so-called defense medicine: you practice how to care for the injured and transport them to hospital under difficult and challenging conditions.

- The scenario takes place in peacetime, so it is the police who lead and the defense supports, says Per Nilsson who is a colonel and exercise leader.

He points out that there is no heightened threat, but that it is a matter of preparation for all involved.

In concrete terms, they practiced that a terrorist incident took place at the school, where hostages were taken.

Shots are fired, some are injured and minor panic ensues.

The armed forces, the police, the city of Västerås, rescue services and health care personnel participated in the exercise.

The incident took place mainly at Carlforsska high school and Västerås hospital's emergency department and ended in the afternoon.
