Ukraine aims to meet conditions to start EU accession talks

Ukraine's Prime Minister Denis Shmyal said on Monday that his country aims to meet all conditions for the start of accession talks with the European Union by the end of the year, providing a very fast timetable.

Shmyhal said on the sidelines of talks with EU representatives in Brussels that Ukraine plans to meet all seven conditions that were set for it when it was granted candidate status in June.

Shmyhal added that the Ukrainian government and people are united and committed to achieving accession to the European Union.

Ukraine applied for EU membership days after the war began and was granted candidate status less than four months later, a process that could take several years.

However, EU leaders have warned that Ukraine's entry into the EU could take "decades".
