Two candidates were previously washed over the summer leading up to the leadership duel, former finance minister Rishi Sunak and foreign secretary Liz Truss.

However, Sunak's slogan "Ready for Rishi" is answered with a no according to consensus measurements.

He stands for a more cautious fiscal policy, so as not to fuel inflation.

Liz Truss's classic right-wing message that tax cuts will save people's everyday finances and end the crisis has brought more cheers.

- This is what the Tory party loves, it's what they want to hear, says Anna-Maja Persson in Morgonstudion.

Tories behind Labour

If Liz Truss wins, however, it only shows that she is most popular among the 200,000 or so members of the right-wing Tories party who had the right to vote in the leadership election.

It remains to be seen whether she can also become the "Liz for leader" of the broad masses, as her election signs chanted.

According to opinion polls, the Tories are well behind Social Democratic Labour, after the scandals that marked Boris Johnson's time as Prime Minister and which also triggered his resignation.

But in that case, 47-year-old Truss has two years to reverse the trend, after she takes office tomorrow, Tuesday.

The next election does not have to be held until sometime in the winter of 2024–2025.
