"The escalation of energy and food prices risks

undermining economic growth

. According to some projections

, almost a million jobs are at risk

and it is a luxury we cannot afford."

This was the alarm launched today by the general secretary of the CISL,

Luigi Sbarra

, who took part in a conference on "Work, employment and dignity" in Assisi.

"In this extraordinary phase - he added - we ask the government to adopt an urgent measure aimed at freeing up resources with a view to supporting businesses, families, employees and retirees", drawing resources "from the

extra profits

of energy companies, logistics multinationals and in digital businesses.

But, to an extreme extent, the budget gap

must also be taken into consideration

". Then" Europe must also do its part, putting a

maximum gas price ceiling

"and pursuing" greater energy autonomy "

"In the coming days - Sbarra also announced - we will present to the country a real '

agenda

' with our priorities on the economic level and the most urgent social reforms to be adopted together with the next budget law. The keywords are

work

,

investments

,

tax

cuts

, agreement on

pensions

, new protections and relaunching of competences, income policy and social cohesion, implementation

of the Pnrr

and

Mezzogiorno

, bargaining and participation ".

Sbarra also invited to "look at the medium term by putting growth and development as a priority. Work is not created by decree, but by relaunching and qualifying public and private investments, industrial policies, material and digital infrastructures,

stabilization and hiring

in the public sector, in health, school, research and universities. The challenge is to connect the modernization of the country, starting with the objectives of the NRP, with ambitious social conditionalities that will relaunch decent work, well contracted, paid and trained ".
