The Emirates Down Syndrome Society received at its headquarters in Dubai the students of the Development Center for the academic year 2023/2022, to benefit from all the specialized services provided to them by specialists in an atmosphere prepared within a qualified educational environment according to the highest standards.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Manal Jaarour, affirmed the association’s keenness to develop services, and said: “Every year we add new services and receive a larger number, and we would not have done this without the support provided by the association’s strategic partners, which contributes significantly to the development and sustainability of services in The Development Center, led by the Easa Saleh Al Gurg Charitable Foundation, Abu Dhabi Insurance Company and Shangri-La Hotel.”

She added: “Since the opening of the center in 2009 to date, the development center has provided direct services, benefiting 580 members with Down syndrome, represented in the rehabilitation educational classes services, which began with one semester in 2016, bringing the number of classes to five classes in both Arabic and English, and a professional preparation class. As the total number of students enrolled in classes for this year reached 30, and the supportive therapeutic services (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and treatment of language and speech disorders), the number of individual sessions provided since 2009 to date reached 43,400 individual sessions, in addition to family counseling sessions special education and behavior modification.

For her part, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Nawal Al-Haj Nasser, said: "We have worked a lot on developing services and on the environment prepared with the latest technologies and focusing on outputs, and there are many distinctive projects for adults with Down syndrome that will be announced soon."

She added, "Our goal is to empower them, integrate them and improve their quality of life, and what we have achieved was through concerted efforts and the support of our distinguished partners who contributed to providing these services in an optimal manner, setting the finest examples of social responsibility, and words cannot express their gratitude."

Salma Kanaan, Executive Director of the Association, confirmed that the Development Center is a nucleus for providing early intervention and integrated services to develop the capabilities of people of determination, empowering them and providing them with the basic ingredients that contribute to preparing them for academic, social and functional integration, as the center enabled two children to integrate into schools during 2021/2022.

She added that the center is witnessing a great demand for receiving supportive therapeutic services in the field of physical and occupational therapy, treatment of language and speech disorders, special education and behavior modification, as all specialists are qualified and experienced, and are licensed to practice the profession by the Dubai Health Authority and the Community Development Authority in Dubai. .
