The US State Department announced that the US Special Representative for North Korea, Ambassador Sung Kim, will travel to Tokyo next Wednesday to hold three-way talks with the nuclear envoys of South Korea and Japan.

In a press statement, the ministry said that the three parties will discuss a wide range of issues, including the ongoing joint efforts to achieve the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The ministry added that Kim will stress his country's commitment to dialogue, even as it takes all necessary measures to confront the threat posed by Pyongyang to America and its allies, according to South Korean broadcaster KBS World, yesterday.

The ministry added that the tripartite meeting underscores the importance of close and continuous US cooperation with Japan and South Korea on North Korean issues, and its firm commitment to the security of the two countries.

At the meeting, Ambassador Kim and Seoul's nuclear envoy, Kim Jun, will be hosted by their Japanese counterpart Funakoshi Takehiro.

This will be the third time that direct talks will be held between the three officials since Kim Jong-un took office last May.

South Korean President Yoon Sok-yul proposed last month the bold initiative that includes providing economic aid to North Korea in exchange for it giving up its nuclear weapons, but Pyongyang rejected the initiative.
