Today, Saturday, the government commissioner at the Lebanese Military Court issued a decision to arrest an officer and 4 members of the State Security Service, pending investigation, following the death of a Syrian youth arrested under torture.

The French press agency quoted a judicial official as saying that the Syrian youth, Bashar Abdel-Saud, "died three hours after his arrest, as he was subjected to severe torture and shocks that led to his heart stopping and his death," noting that he died before arriving at the hospital.

Al-Saud was arrested by the Lebanese State Security Service on August 31, and he was transferred to the State Security Office in Bint Jbeil District (southern Lebanon) for interrogation with him and other detainees.

For his part, the Lebanese Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, today called for an investigation into the circumstances of the killing of the Syrian youth, describing what happened as a crime rejected by reason and contrary to human rights.

Yassin called for a serious investigation by the judicial judiciary, not the military.

Yesterday, Friday, the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that official security and judicial authorities suspected that an officer and members of the State Security Service tortured the Syrian youth during his interrogation and beat him to death.
