New deadly clashes have erupted in Blue Nile State, a region in the south-east of the country bordering Ethiopia, between Barta and Hausa groups.

According to a government agency, 18 people were killed and 23 injured in the violence.

Heavy fighting had already taken place in July, before a truce was concluded.

Clashes have resumed

," wrote the Humanitarian Affairs Commission in a statement.

According to this government body, the violence has also caused the displacement of populations.

Thousands of people have fled to nearby villages.

The Suna news agency reports in particular clashes in a locality where shops have already been set on fire in July.

Clashes, shootings and fires

then broke out

in the same Blue Nile state, killing 105 people and displacing 31,000, many of whom are still in makeshift camps or in schools.

A ceasefire was concluded at the end of July between the two parties, who then promised to renegotiate, to achieve a lasting peace.

This conflict between the Barta and Hausa groups stems from the question of access to land.

Hausa people feel unfairly treated.

A question all the more sensitive, in a country where agriculture and livestock represent 43% of jobs and 30% of GDP.

But in July, several observers said it would be "

 misleading

" to describe the violence as only intercommunal.
