Major Laila Muhammed Kazem Shujaei succeeded in achieving an achievement to be added to the balance of Emirati women, by being the first female police officer in Sharjah to inspect the crime scene, and she was followed by being the first forensic expert to represent the women’s police at the INTERPOL headquarters in France, and she won the Police Medal of Excellence. Shojaei holds the position of Acting Director of the Criminal Biology Branch in the Sharjah Police, explaining that she joined the Sharjah Police as a trainee in the criminal laboratory in 2001, and was appointed there in 2002, after completing her university studies in the field of (biology) at the United Arab Emirates University, and obtained a master’s degree in criminal sciences, and a certificate Passing the German foreign competency in the field of criminal examinations.

And about her joining the police, she said: “This field for me was something new and strange, and I had a great passion for joining it for two reasons, the first of which is my love for this field, and the second is my belief that parents have a vision for the future of their children. (I see you in the position of a senior police officer), and at that time this position was far from women, but I put the matter in my mind, and I insisted on fulfilling his wish.”

She added to "Emirates Today": "In the Criminal Biology and Biological Examinations Branch, we have two sections: the Biological Testing Unit and the DNA Fingerprint, and in this branch I deal with various police authorities, including crime scenes, police stations and others, and we deal with cases of murder, attempted murder, suicide and attempted suicide. Car thefts, homes and companies, cases of rape, sexual harassment and sodomy, and in these cases I deal with biological samples, whether blood, saliva, hair, or semen samples, as well as body cells, and each case has certain tests. It relies on advanced technologies that are constantly updated.”

And she continued, "The other thing in my work is monitoring and analyzing the invisible effects at crime scenes, in which we use specialized lighting and chemicals for these things, and we develop specific scenarios for each crime."

Major Laila Shojaei obtained a certificate of a certified trainer in protection from child sexual abuse from Kingston University in the UK, explaining that the most important thing that affects a person from the crimes we work on is to see what harms the child, such as cases of sexual assault and harassment, being a mother, and then I did a Certified Child Protection from Sexual Abuse Trainer course, and I found that the Child Protection Program would strengthen me more, and give me a skill and culture for how to train children to deal with strangers.

She stressed that all this could not have been done without the leadership’s confidence in her to take responsibility, noting that she received the Interior Minister’s Award in its fourth session, the Commander-in-Chief Branch, as the best technical officer, the ideal employee award, the Excellent Performance Medal, and the Job Excellence Medal, as well as certificates of appreciation, the latest of which from the leadership.
