A light aircraft made a crash-threatening flight in Tupelo, Mississippi, in the south-central United States, and landed safely after about five hours.

According to local police on the 3rd local time, a light plane has been hovering over the area since around 5 a.m. on the weekend, threatening to crash into a Walmart in Tupelo.

The pilot of the aircraft directly called 911 to convey the threat, and the police immediately ordered an evacuation, including closing all nearby stores, including Wal-Mart.

The aircraft flew over Tupelo and the nearby Blue Springs and Holy Springs National Forest for more than five hours and landed safely in the nearby Ripley area, authorities said.

There was only one pilot on board, and he was taken into custody by the police immediately after landing.

The aircraft is a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air C90A, which was stolen, CNN reported.

Authorities are ascertaining whether the pilot who made the threatening flight was a local airport employee.

The investigation involves not only local authorities, but also federal authorities such as the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
