The town of Haparanda, located in Norrbotten near the border with Finland, is the municipality with the lowest voter turnout.

But even municipalities such as Botkyrka and Södertälje stand out among municipalities with lower turnout.

- It has more to do with the composition of the population.

These are municipalities that have a large proportion of foreign-born people - which generally have lower voter turnout, says Richard Öhrvall, doctor of political science.

However, there are also other factors behind the fact that some Swedes do not choose not to vote - not least the lack of trust in politics and a kind of experience of political exclusion, says the political scientist.

- What sets Haparanda apart is also that it is a border municipality.

Some may follow Finnish politics, rather than Swedish, and may not feel the same commitment, says Öhrvall.

Hear Richard Öhrvall, doctor of political science, explain what else could be behind the lower voter turnout in some municipalities.
