He urged Washington to abide by the one China principle, as well as stop selling weapons to the island and end military contacts with it.

“China intends to resolutely take legal and necessary response measures in light of the latest developments in the situation,” RIA Novosti quoted Liu Pengyu as saying.

He stressed that by supplying weapons to Taiwan, the United States is thus interfering in China's internal affairs and undermining its sovereignty.

The Chinese embassy spokesman also noted that this US course endangers the future of Sino-US relations.

Earlier it became known that the US State Department approved a possible deal to sell arms to Taiwan in excess of $1 billion.
