Since 1989, friends of photography from all over the world have been meeting in the southern French city every year.

The photo festival will be attracting visitors with exhibitions, discussions, screenings and award ceremonies until September 11th.

Photographers from all over the world are showing their work in places as diverse as churches, the old university, a monastery and various other exhibition spaces.

Photographer Françoise Huguier has been working

discreetly

for over 40 years .

Journalist Gérard Lefort describes her as invisible, a distinguished reporter who excels in the art of disappearance, ready to lurk, whether backstage during a fashion show, in the shadows, in the African heat or Siberian cold, in old shared apartments in Saint Petersburg or behind the scenes of Korean society.

Huguier defies description.

If you try to watch her at work, you rarely notice her taking a picture.

Your exhibition "Discretion" shows many such moments from different parts of the world.

In her work “Días Eternos: Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala”, Ana María Arévalo Gosen

, who was born in Venezuela

, has been dealing with the situation of women in Latin American prisons for more than five years.

Many prisons cannot ensure segregation between men and women.

They live in overcrowded cells, often without enough food and water and without medical care.

They are granted fewer visits than men and most of the time their children are not allowed to live with them.

With no hope of rehabilitation, they often wait years for their court cases.

Many migrants spend years fleeing war and natural disasters to find a better future in a European country.

The French-Syrian photographer

Sameer Al-Doumy

photographed refugees living in Calais for his story "Fatal Crossings" from August 2020 to May 2022 and this year received the Humanitarian Visa d'or Award - International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC ) to get.

The pharmaceutical industry uses science, marketing and communication to fulfill ancient human desires for beauty, strength and eternal youth.

The dream of a magic pill can be found in many films and archetypes such as Alice in Wonderland or The Matrix.

It is desired as a quick fix against weakness, melancholy, or other threats to human existence.

For five years, journalist

Arnaud Robert

and photographer

Paolo Woods

traveled the world in search of drugs capable of relieving pain.

Her exhibition "Happy Pills" shows photos, dares a trip towards social media and confronts you with your own relationship to medicines.

The exhibition "An Outsider" collects 50 years of heterogeneous photographic work by the American photographer

Eugene Richards.

On February 24 this year, the Russian President gave the order to attack Ukraine.

Daniel Berehulak

photographed for his work “People Lived Here” in Bucha after the departure of the Russian army, which invaded the city northwest of Kiev in early April.

What remained was a scene of horror: the streets were littered with the bodies of civilians, others lay in backyards, basements or living rooms, their hands tied behind their backs.

The exhibition documents the human rights violations committed there and the finds made by the Ukrainian army.

George Steinmetz

traveled to nine different countries over six years to photograph the developments in the fisheries.

His work Global Fisheries looks at some of the largest and most sophisticated fishing vessels.

In contrast, he also dedicates himself to poor fishermen from the world's least developed countries, who struggle every day to feed their families.

He encountered exploitation of the world's oceans as well as well-managed fisheries that scientifically monitor populations to ensure long-lasting yields.

Knowing this could help people make more sustainable dietary choices.
