Pakistani court asks Imran Khan for written clarification of statements made against female judge

A Pakistani court has demanded a written explanation of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's angry remarks against a judge who had refused bail to a close aide of Khan while continuing to consider contempt of court proceedings against Khan.

A five-judge panel led by Chief Justice Athar Minatullah on Wednesday demanded Khan provide a response within a week explaining why he should not be charged with contempt of court, Khan's aide Rauf Hassan said over the phone.

In a written response on Tuesday, Khan told the court it had prejudged his comments and denied the judge's threat at a public meeting earlier this month.

However, he said he would retract his comments "if they are inappropriate," Bloomberg News reported today.

According to Geo TV, citing legal experts, the court is demanding an apology from Khan before dropping the case against him.
