The closure of the Mainkai will end on Sunday, September 4th. During the course of Monday morning, the northern bank of the Main will be reopened to motorized traffic after eight weeks.

With that, the “Summer on the Main” is about to end, and until then there is another packed program on the car-free Mainkai.

During the day on Friday, the focus is on the content of a workshop.

The results will be presented at 5 p.m.

Afterwards, the director of the German Architecture Museum, Peter Cachola Schmal, will speak with Wolfgang Siefert, personal advisor to the head of the mobility department, Stefan Majer (Die Grünen), about this year's experiences with the Mainkai closure.

It's not just about the traffic and the detour routes, but also about the temporary conversion of the historic Mainkai.

Blocked again next year

At the end there is the opportunity to take part in an online survey on "Summer on the Main" and the future Mainkai development.

It can be found on the website

The Roman coalition of Greens, SPD, FDP and Volt has the declared goal of keeping the northern bank of the Main free of cars and trucks permanently.

For this purpose, a free space and design concept is to be developed.

The next closure of the Mainkai is likely to follow in the summer holidays of next year.

In June, the magistrate stated in a report that, contrary to what was initially planned, the road should not be closed at night, on weekends and on public holidays.

The effort is too great for that.

In addition, road traffic law only allows for a temporary change in use if the space is required for events.
