Syrian official media reported that the Israeli occupation army launched a missile attack on Aleppo International Airport, and that the air defenses repelled another Israeli attack in the sky of Damascus and its countryside on Wednesday evening.

The official Syrian news agency "SANA" said that the air defenses confronted the hostile missiles in the airspace of Damascus and its countryside, and shot down a number of them.

The agency reported, quoting a military source, that the occupation army launched a missile attack on Aleppo International Airport.

The source added that the Israeli shelling, which took place at approximately eight in the evening, caused material damage to the airport.

For its part, local sources told Al-Jazeera that the bombing targeted the airport and ammunition depots inside, and caused fires to erupt west of the airport.

No other details were available yet.

Nor has there been a comment from the Israeli side so far.

A similar Israeli bombing had previously rendered Damascus International Airport out of service, before the relevant authorities worked on repairing it.

For years, the positions of the Syrian regime forces and the militias affiliated with Iran in Syria have been subjected to repeated Israeli bombardments, as Israel says that it wants to prevent what it calls an Iranian military presence there.
